Ep. 46: What Are You Really Bringing into the Bedroom? And What Do You Want To? with Sexologist Jill McDevitt, PhD

See this content in the original post

Dr. Jill McDevitt is a sexologist and sexuality educator, consultant, and coach on a mission to radically improve the way we think about and treat sexuality, ourselves, and each other in the US. She believes that sex should be fun, pleasure is good for you, and shame-free expression of our sexuality is a vital part of being human. Dr. Jill has three degrees in human sexuality (PhD, MEd, and BA), and is the only known person on the whole planet who does, so that’s pretty cool! She also serves as Resident Sexologist for CalExotics, the leading pleasure products company.

In this episode, we discuss:

·       What it means to be a sexologist.

·       Why sexuality is not talked about more.

·       The negative messaging regarding sexuality that most of us grow up with and the implications of that in our adult life.

·       Gender differences in how we experience stigmas, shame, and pressure surrounding sex.

·       How to identify when shame is present in our sex lives and begin to unravel it.

·       A much broader definition of sexuality and how it can help us identify underlying issues throughout our lives.

·       Where our very strict narrative of what sex is comes from and how it may be holding us back from experiences we may really enjoy.

·       Her opinions on toys, porn, and open relationships.

·       And how the concept of paying it forward can help remove shame from sexuality.
